Art League of Baytown is pleased to host its first Upcycle Art Challenge Oct. 15 with co-sponsor Chevron Phillips Chemical Co.
The goal of the upcycling challenge is to raise environmental awareness by promoting action through reusing, recycling and repurposing materials to create art.
The contest categories are 1) decorative and 2) functional art pieces that serve a purpose. The creations may be 2D or 3D.
Each piece must feature 80 percent material recycled from some previous use. Glue, screws and other fastening devices are NOT included in the remaining 20 percent. A list of all parts must be included when the art is submitted online. The list must identify which parts are new (20 percent or less).
An artist’s statement must be included with the work to explain what the artist is conveying in the work or the object’s value, use or impact. This should not exceed 150 words.
Applications for the juried art show must be submitted online through ArtCall.org July 14 – September 17, 2021.
Entries will be judged on visual impact, creativity/originality, composition/design, craftsmanship and material usage.
